Code For Sustainable Homes

Good building design can help to reduce pollution, provide energy efficient homes with low
running energy costs and a better living environment. As more houses are needed it is important
to minimise environmental impacts and save water, and other resources and reduce waste.

Code For Sustainable Homes

The code for sustainable homes is now mandatory for all new build dwellings.

The code assesses the sustainability of all the components necessary to construct new dwellings, the standard covers 9 categories of sustainability:

The assessment is a two stage process:

Stage 1
The design stage normally involves 1 or 2 meetings with the designer/contractor to discuss all the above issues and get commitments and agree design changes to ensure compliance in achieving the credit rating in accordance with the level of sustainability required

Stage 2
The post contract stage involves the production of documentary evidence to substantiate the credit scored for each category, and these to be submitted to the BRE, the code provider for verification and issuing of the star rating final certificates.
